Elemental Movement Physical Therapy was founded by Iris Platt, a pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapist. She holds a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from Columbia University, where her research examined the relationship between motor learning, emotional regulation, and movement, and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University. She is a Pelvic Rehabilitation Certified Practitioner through Herman & Wallace and has completed numerous continuing education courses since graduating in 2021.
In addition to clinical practice, EMPT is shaped by ongoing teaching, research, and community education. Iris Platt is a 1st-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and Muay Thai fighter, yoga teacher, and educator on all topics pelvic health as well as facilitated courses at Columbia University including a Health Equality & Social Justice course. As a former dancer, Iris also engages in movement research with the Partnering Lab, a Boston-based applied research initiative focused on ethics in physical interaction.
