What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the bottom of your pelvis that has multiple functions:

  • Support

  • Sphincteric (bladder and bowel)

  • Sexual

  • Stability

  • Breathing

  • Birthing (vulva owners only)

Think of it like a supportive trampoline that needs to shorten and lengthen to function properly.

Why an orthopedic approach to pelvic health?

An orthopedic approach to pelvic health recognizes that the pelvic floor does not function in isolation. Pelvic symptoms are often influenced by how the hips, spine, ribs, feet, and nervous system work together during movement and daily life. Rather than focusing only on the pelvic floor itself, care considers the entire body and how strength, mobility, coordination, and load management affect pelvic health.

This approach integrates traditional orthopedic principles such as movement analysis, strength training, and tissue tolerance with specialized pelvic health expertise. Treatment is individualized, function driven, and grounded in helping people return to the activities that matter to them with confidence, efficiency, and less pain.
